Thuele. withheld G_FAULT_LN This dataset represents structural faults (at the scale of original mapping) and descriptive data and shows the location and type of faults in the state of Oregon. This file is one in a set of four files which are provided to the user in two formats: MapInfo .tab and ESRI .shp format files. The other three files in the set include: G_MAP_UNIT, G_FOLD_LN, and G_REF_MAP. Overlay statewide fault map to go with the geologic unit map. This data is assembled from the best available geologic map information for Oregon by integrating the work of many individual geologic mappers into a vector digital data set stored in geographic information system (GIS) format with links to a relational database. This dataset is the final release of a six-year effort to digitally compile geologic data for the entire state. This effort will provide the best geologic data currently available for Oregon. A total of 345 separate geologic maps (including existing digital data sets) are integrated to provide the best available geologic coverage. A portion of those maps are represented here in the fault data. Original hardcopy paper maps were scanned, converted from raster to vector format (or heads-up digitized on the computer screen) and the data structured according to a geologic data model adopted by the Oregon Geoscience Committee, part of the Oregon Framework Theme development process. This data set is the result of integrating parts or all of 345 separate reference maps and the accuracy varies according to the original reference map scale (1:12,000 to 1:500,000). Data resolution greater than original reference map scale(s) is not available. This dataset was tailored for use at a scale of 1:100,000. Use at larger scale would be inappropriate. There is uncertainty in the position of the faults from the field mapping process, the original map preparation, and the digitizing process. Numerous queries were run to check accuracy and consistency of attribute information. Queries were run separately and to compare the data sets against each other. An iterative process was run to find discrepancies and then corrections were made to the respective data sets to achieve consistency. MapInfo Professional version 8.0 does not establish data set topology. All lines have one unique label. Spatial data is presented in the form of lines characterizing faulting in the state of Oregon. All fault lines are fully attributed. This feature class must be used in conjunction with the other feature classes in this dataset for a full representation of the geology of Oregon. Horizontal positional accuracy of this data equates to the original reference map scale. The range of map scales used varies from 1:12,000 to 1:500,000. This data set is predominantly the result of many digitizing 'heads-up' data conversions performed on scanned images of paper maps. Raster scanning of paper maps introduce some horizontal accuracy displacement. This displacement has not been quantified. Maps were scanned (color or grayscale) at 300 dots per inch and provided as tagged image format (tiff) files. Georeferencing was performed with Blue Marble Geographics Geographic Transformer. This software allows entering numerous points to establish the basis for assigning world coordinates to the image coordinates. The software calculates error on the fly, and all maps were processed with a tolerance of 1 pixel error. In the processing, each map was projected with the same software into the Oregon Lambert Projection. Faults were digitized 'heads-up', snapping to nodes (vertices) of the G_MAP_UNIT polygons when possible. Linework inspection was done to determine completeness and accuracy. The Licensor is the owner of multi-purpose GIS data and Jackson County specific data and the authorized repository of other GIS data that is not owned by the Licensor. This Agreement shall not transfer the ownership of any GIS data, which shall be retained by its current owner. The Licensee wishes to secure the non-exclusive right to use the Jackson County GIS (JCGIS) data. IN CONSIDERATION of the mutual covenants and conditions herein contained, the Licensor and Licensee agree as follows: 1) TERMS OF USE: a) Rights Granted: i) The Licensor grants to the Licensee the non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the licensed products and data (hereinafter the 'licensed data'); ii) Licensee assumes responsibility to determine the appropriate use of the licensed data; iii) Data Delivery - The licensed data shall normally be furnished as a no-cost, online download delivered on the JCGIS website.
